Broad Museum:

This artwork by Jenny Saville is called Strategy. I don’t really know why it’s called Strategy but I personally like this because it shows different body shapes and weights. I like how real it is. I like that the sides are facing the middle image and that the sides are darker but the middle is bright. I like how it includes her looking down as if it’s showing her confidence in her body, or it can even mean the opposite. I like that from this artwork, there can be different interpretations. I love the details in it and the contrast between her and the grey colored background.

Social Media Trends:
Trend #1: Instagram Reels and Tiktoks – This apples to my brand because these two would gather a huge audience as these are what the new generation uses throughout their day. These are two popular ways to promote anything because of how many people are using Instagram or Tiktok.
Trend #2: Long-Form Videos – This applies to my brand because I can use it to interact with audience, put out videos of how I create some of my work, and promote my work. This can be really good to use because these will always regain some popularity overtime and can gather an audience.
Trend #3: Stories on Social Media – Stories such as snapchat, instagram, pinterest, twitter, and facebook uses a story feature that disappears after 24 hours. This can apply to my brand because I can promote a page, share some work of mine, and it will reach out to people for a day. It can be a great way to promote a page and have others click to it easily.
Trend #4: Screen-to-screen time events – This can apply to my brand because I can do live videos to gather an audience or use platforms such as linkedin, youtube, and instagram to go live and produce audiences, answer questions, and promote as well as interact.

Trend #6: Tutorials – When I post videos, stories, Tiktoks of my work, I can post tutorials on how to do it. This applies to my brand when others see it they may want to recreate it or get interested in how to start photography. Posting tutorials will gather audiences and allow them to remain interested if I continue to do so.
Trend #7: Captions – This can apply to my brand because it can add more meaning to a message in my work. This would have to have good sizing and placement in order for it to remain powerful rather than disorganized. But doing so, can achieve audiences to remain interested in my brand,
Trend #8: Engage – Continuing to engage with my audience and building relationships with loyal customers. This can apply to my brand when keeping it going and allowing it to be supported by others. Doing so will keep others interested, allow others to promote my work, and keep a connection with the audience.

Job hunting
I discovered a job that does interest me in photography which would be Fashion Photography. They edit photos touch-ups for model shoots, they design and photograph photos for graphic designers to use to promote their company, and more. It catches my interest most to me because I like fashion and it sounds so fun to do in this branch of photography.

Stephen Frink by Thomas Simms Article Review – https://www.bhphotovideo.com/explora/canon/artist/stephen-frink

In this article, it talks about underwater photography. The way they introduce the topic of underwater photography, they use imagery to inspire and engage me in the article. I got inspired thinking about the adrenaline that would kick in from underwater photography, the possibility of being arm’s length away from a dolphin.. seeing a whale swimming by and having the ability to capture it in a photo. This story can help shape my view and opinion about a career in the photography field because of the different branches of photography that exists today. There is all kinds of photography one can do and I see how thrilling it can be in some of them.

Peter Tellone By Grant Willing Article Review – https://www.bhphotovideo.com/explora/canon/artist/peter-tellone

In this article, it talks about landscape photography. This article is not that engaging as the other, but I did get inspired reading it and seeing the images used in the article. I got inspired mainly from the pictures and the line, “Landscape photography is all about handling and placing elements of a natural scene into an aesthetic composition, with respect shared between personal visions and capturing the lay of the land”. Reading this line sparked different ideas of landscapes I could take and different ways I can take it to make it into an aesthetic photograph. This story changed the view of photography and opinion in the field because I see how calming, intense, and beautiful landscape photographs can be. I see how much gets put into it to be made into an aesthetic photo and it makes me consider photography as a hobby.

This work is by Andres Serrano. Made in 1987 called Immersions (Piss Christ). This photograph kind of offends me because in a way it seems offensive and disrespectful towards Jesus Christ. But as I read on, it says it had attracted the attention of a pastor, and soon congress. They were mad that Serrano had received funding and helped to consider โ€œgeneral standards of decencyโ€ in awarding grants. This work seems very controversial and I can see that this has made an impact on people.

The impact this made has left the question about whether the government had the right to censor art. I see that this photo even would offend others and some would see what it has done to push their limits in art. But this photo affects my emotions in a way Iโ€™m unsure of what I feel towards it. In a way, I feel mad but I try to see what his intentions for this photograph was. Itโ€™s a photograph that is gross thinking about and I chose this because of the way it makes me feel. It makes me feel angry, upset, but at the same time Iโ€™m trying to understand the reasoning for it. I read later on that the decency-standards law passed because of this work in 1998. I see that this photo made such an impact for it to be able to pass laws and consider standards of decency. But Iโ€™m unsure if this was the right approach to do so.

Why Photography is Important

Photography is important because it can enable others to see things from a different perspective. It allows you to capture moments that can be so meaningful to you. For example, photographs of your family members that have passed or any of them knowing they will pass one day. Those photographs will mean the world to you. Photography can allow you to bring meaningful experiences to others as well.

Another reason why it is important is because it can inspire you to travel to places with friends and family. It can also bring awareness to others about issues such as climate change, it can bring awareness to animal mistreatment and more. Photography can bring change, it can bring unity, and it brings empowerment. It can show situations that inform others, make them want to do something about these issues, and more. Photography can be for many things from just wanting a hobby to wanting to bring change, it can show so many things.

I love this photographer on the silver list. His photography instantly caught my eye and going through his works such as the one above, the details in the photos are so unbelievably strong, it is beautiful. It is powerful. The contrast in this photo is amazing. I have nothing to say that I want to critique on it other than the fact I wish it was more centered. But, everything about the photo from the details, the expression, and contrast is amazing. It tells a story that can be interpreted and it can get the attention of many.

I love this photographerโ€™s photo because it as I went through her work, they caught my interest. I loved how they look. I love this photo. I love the way her face is the only thing in the frame, I love the shadow on the photo. I do wish there was a bit more contrast between the shadow or maybe it was a big brighter on the left side rather than more contrast.
